U.S. Olympic Team Website Features Me and Barbara Ann Cochran

Many of you know that I’ve been teaming up with Olympian Barbara Ann Cochran to talk about the mental tenacity it takes to prepare for the SAT and ACT. Well, I’m thrilled to report that the U.S. Olympic Team got wind of this and has done a little feature about our work together on their site. You can read the article here.

I just wanted to send out a note of congratulations to those students at The Veritas School in Jackson, Mississippi who blew the PSAT out of the water using OUTSMARTING THE SAT in class to prepare. I’m so excited for them and we’re on the lookout for National Merit Scholarships. I’ll keep everyone up to date!

Teen Sleep– turns out it’s legit

The other day I had an appointment with a student who I usually meet around 6 pm on the weekends. Much to my surprise, she asked me if we could move our appointment earlier (to around 1) or later because “six o’clock is right in the middle of [her] day.” I imagine if you’re a parent this sounds pretty typical, but I’ll admit that I reacted as though she had three heads. Since I am usually exhausted by eight at night, I did a little research about what on earth makes 6 p.m. equal noon for teens, and I found this great article about adolescent sleep needs. It may not warrant calling the dinner hour “the middle of the day,” but it was informative at the least.
