PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS:
Let’s Get Ready, Org.: These folks run an amazing free SAT prep program for really deserving kids all over the northeast. I’m hoping they’ll start eeking their way south and west as they are able. Plus, yours truly is currently helping them spearhead a project to redevelop their prep material!
Girls Learn International: Girls Learn partner with high school chapters with schools in those regions that severely under-serve their female populations. These partner chapters support schools and education specifically for girls. The young women in these clubs with whom I have spoken are some of the most articulate and thoughtful students I have come across in my career.
Invisible Children: Elizabeth King Coaching, Inc. supports Invisible Children’s efforts to care for and educate the orphans and child soldiers in war-torn Northern Uganda. Be the first to host an Invisible Children film screening at your school.
Danica McKellar: Danica is the author of Math Doesn’t Suck and Kiss My Math. She’s a super mover and shaker in movement to get girls into math.
Jaye Fenderson: Jaye Fenderson is the author of Seventeen’s Guide to Getting into College. (She also happens to head up the College Q&A section over at Seventeen magazine.) Jaye’s book is so friendly that you may not believe how many solid tips she’s packed into it. Jaye has worked in admissions in the Ivy League and knows the ropes. You want the lowdown on choosing a great school and even a few pocketable vocab flash cards? Grab her book.
Mount Holyoke College: My alma mater.
PRODUCTS:
Free Rice: Ok, so Free Rice isn’t a product, it’s a cool service. You learn vocab; they give money. Get your give on!
