Each Smart Tutor is a gifted teacher who prioritizes educational authenticity and understanding over “teaching to the test.” Your online tutoring experience will foster not only a great SAT or ACT score but also confidence, a renewed ability to creatively tackle problems, and enhanced critical thinking skills. While every member of the Smart Tutor team is a specialist in standardized test preparation, each Tutor is a teacher, mentor, and coach first.

elizabeth_headshot Elizabeth King is an SAT and ACT prep expert based in NYC. Elizabeth has been tutoring students all over the United states for seven years and is the author of the book OUTSMARTING THE SAT (Ten Speed 2008). She has worked in conjunction with the most exclusive test preparation companies in New York and Palm Beach, contributed to the Wall Street Journal on Campus, and been quoted in the New York Times. Elizabeth has been a guest on the Wired Magazine Hopkinson Report and mentioned on the U.S. Olympic Team Website; she guest blogs for numerous college-admissions sites.

Elizabeth takes the SAT annually and consistently receives scores in the 99th percentile. She is currently partnering with Let’s Get Ready, a not-for-profit test preparation and admissions consulting that offers services to under-served communities, to revamp their entire test preparation curriculum. Elizabeth has developed SACS-accredited high school level homeschool curriculum, as well as taught homeschooled students and facilitated their work with other accredited programs.

A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Elizabeth self-designed a major incorporating Mathematics, Economics, Art History, and Studio Art. She is currently enrolled in the UCLA Extension Graduate Certificate in College Counseling program.

rosie_headshot Rosie Colosi is a freelance writer, copywriter, editor, and tutor in Manhattan. Her overwhelming love of children’s literature led her to Scholastic Children’s Publishing, through which she has written seven activity books with combined sales topping 240,000. She also edited and managed Scholastic’s Troll/Carnival Book Club, selecting and licensing books, creating learning kits, and purchasing trendy Hello Kitty add-on merchandise. Through her graduate work at Boston College, Rosie taught two sections of the First-Year Writing Seminar and became a College Reading & Learning Association certified writing tutor. She continues to help high school, college, and graduate students brainstorm, craft, and refine essays in a manner that highlights their unique qualities while maintaining their personal voice.

greg_headshot Greg Gorden received his Bachelors of Science Degree and Secondary Science Teaching Certificate from Texas A&M University.  He has taught chemistry, physics, biology, human anatomy & physiology.  He has also been the Manager of School Programs for several nationally recognized science museums including the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Health & Medical Science.  A certified science teacher with over 10 years of experience in the field, Greg has been a classroom teacher, a curriculum developer, a museum educator and a private tutor.

will_headshot William H. Jennings is a science specialist primarily interested in Chemical and Biological worlds. During his undergrad at UMASS Amherst he studied Digital Arts and Science and minored in Biology. Will’s current research is defined by making the untouchable interlocking parts of science and art into a observable form.  His current projects include developing learning tools/toys for Pinyin (Mandarin) and exploring an online venue in which to better understand geometry and organic chemistry (two very symbiotic subjects). William hopes to attend NYU ITP in the Fall of 2010 to pursue a Graduate Degree in Technology and Art. Since 2004, William has been helping students prepare for the SAT, ACT, GRE, AP Chemistry and AP Biology tests. He lives in San Francisco, California.

Jess_headshot Jessica Bruso received her Master’s of Science in Biology in 2007 from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. She holds an BS in Psychobiology. A professor at a small private college, she instructs classes on Anatomy and Physiology I and II, as well as General and Advanced Biology classes and labs. Jessica is currently writing a biology laboratory manual for the biology lab.

While attending FAU, she taught general biology laboratories to undergraduate students, as well as tutored students individually at a private tutoring center in subjects such as Biology, Algebra and SAT/ACT strategies. Jessica’s research interests include marine mammals, particularly dolphins and she has conducted field research of dolphin behavior in Costa Rica, Grand Bahama Island, and Florida. She hopes to begin a PhD in the next two years with a focus on aquatic mammal health and its environmental impacts.

j_headshot Jonathan Horvath holds an M.F.A in Acting from Brown University and a B.A. in Theater with a minor in Spanish from Wake Forest University. He has worked as an educator for ten years, teaching everything from Spanish to Shakespeare to Sailing. During his time at Wake Forest he studied Spanish Art, Architecture, and Culture at the University of Salamanca in Castilla y Leon, Spain. He has also taught high school theater classes at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, FL.
