Tutoring with Elizabeth King
Elizabeth is available for private tutoring both in-home and online. She travels nationwide but encourages students to come to New York for a initial crash course style tutoring experience. Elizabeth is available for tutoring needs ranging from full-scale courses to hourly consultation to trouble shoot weak areas.
What to Expect from In-Home and Online Tutoring:
- Authenticity. Since I don’t subscribe to the idea of gaming the test and getting around the real work necessary to be truly successful on any standardized test, you’re going to be confronted with hardcore honesty about what you need to know and how you need to think about the test. I’ll never ask you to do anything I don’t think is completely worthwhile, but I’ll ask you to everything without cutting corners.
- Accountability. I don’t give a lot of homework, but I do expect you to do the work I ask you to do. I don’t want to nag you about it because that’s a lousy experience for all of us and I definitely don’t want to have to copy your parents on our notes and goals for the week.
- No busy work. (Surely you must have something better to do with your time.)
- Progress. You are definitely going to learn new critical thinking skills, vocabulary, grammar, and math. You’ll be able to take the skills you learn while we work together with you to college.
- Your score is going to go up. Everyone’s does.
- Renewed confidence. Everything on these tests is learnable. Let’s start treating it that way.
- A little bit of comedy. Letting the cat out of the bag: I know that prepping for standardized tests is not preferable to, well, almost anything. I try to keep it light.
- Mutual respect.
